Brian Phillips is a key figure in Festival day operations, serving as the supply liaison between the Information Booth, all gates, the Site Tent and the Beer Garden. Few would be in the running to top the mileage Brian logs on Festival day!

Brian also is a key player in predicting festival resource needs in advance of the Festival and assessing outcomes after it has taken place.

Causes Brian cares about include: animal welfare, civil rights and social action, education, human rights, science and technology.

You can become part of the Bowling Green International Festival by visiting the volunteer section of our website. The Festival takes place September 30 this year from 9am – 6pm. Meet our festival organizers: Emma Thomas

Emma began volunteering for the Festival at 13. A Bowling Green High student and Purples fan, as soon as she got her driver’s license she took charge of erecting all the festival banners around town each year. And, before graduating she had also taken charge of running the Gates during the Festival, taking charge of more than 24 volunteers throughout the day.

This summer Emma relocated to Florida and works on an island at a tourist shop so she won’t be joining us at the Festival. But, before she left she continued to help make plans for the event as a Community Planner.

Meet our festival organizers: Genevieve Smith

Gennie is brand new to the Community Planners this year and she has single handily taken on the Hospitality tent which will serve over 200 volunteers festival day!

Gennie works as a homemaker and also owns her own business, Gennielouwho Designs for which she creates blankets, clothing and other baby items for everyday usage.

When she not creating, she spends time with husband and two children, likes to travel and is active with her church, Broadway Methodist.

Meet our festival organizers: Hannah Benward

Hannah is a technical writer who assisted the Board’s Sponsorship Committee this year and will be running the Merchandise Booth while Skylar is in France.

Hannah graduated from WKU in 2016. She is currently a graduate student working towards her Master’s in Public Administration in the Political Science Department and a technical writer at KirkpatrickPrice.

In her spare time Hannah enjoys watching Sailor Moon and spending time with her fiancee.

Meet our festival organizers: David Hamilton Hall

David Hall applied as a volunteer helping with the site three years ago and for the last two he has served as Assistant Site Manager and a Community Planner.

David helps to be sure the site is set up correctly, runs smoothly and oversees teardown. When he’s not helping vendors or troubleshooting site issues during the day you can find him shooting photographs of the event.

David is currently a freelance writer, editor and photographer. He enjoys cheering on his nephew’s ball games and shooting photographs of them.

He is also an avid music lover and attends live shows whenever possible.

Meet our festival organizers: Susan Morris

Susan Morris has headed the Children’s Activities Committee and served as a Community Planner for more than a decade. She chooses and organizes all the “make and take” crafts that kids can enjoy for free at the tent on Festival day.

Susan is retired from WKU, but doesn’t have much spare time with all the organizations she does volunteer work for. She is also a talented musician and singer who has performed in many bands over the years including the Outskirts. Her current band Just Us performs regularly for events.

Bring your kids and visit Susan at the Children’s Activity tent September 30 in Circus Square Park.

Meet our festival organizers: Amy Milliken

Warren County Attorney Amy Milliken has been a Community Planner and Chair of the BGIF K-12 Student Poster Contest since 2001. Along with Kasey Davis and other members of her office, Amy solicits and collects entries, judges the entries and makes arrangements for winners to be recognized at the opening ceremony of the Bowling Green International Festival.

Amy was sworn in as the first female Warren County Attorney in 2004. In addition to her regular duties as WC Attorney, Amy has, among many other things, created a web site for the office, thus giving the public greater access to her office and hired a County Attorney Detective to promote more effective prosecution. Amy is currently working on developing a program to prevent truancy among children in the local school systems.

Amy is a water bug, so in her free time she spends every moment she can with her family at a lake swimming and boating. She has three daughters and is married to attorney Wes Milliken.

Meet our festival organizers: Joseph Jackson

Joe has been a Community Planner since 2001. In 2011 he became the Assistant Site Manager and by 2015 he had assumed the position of Site Manager where he remains.

As Site Manager Joe is responsible for the entire setup of the park, troubleshooting any issues during the day and organizing teardown after the event.

Throughout the year Joe is a Community Planner and the Festival’s handyman, fixing broken tents, creating new structures for the site and advising the Board on how to make the site function best.

Joe is retired from the tech industry but still does some freelance work installing home audio, stereo and video equipment. In his spare time Joe loves to build computers, see live music and watch political and farming podcasts and TedTalks.

Meet our festival organizers: Dr. Molly Kerby

You may have had an enjoyable conversation with Molly at the Festival’s Beer Garden which she organizes and runs with Dr. Gayle Mallinger each year.

Dr. Kerby is an associate professor at WKU teaching Diversity & Community Studies as well as Gender & Women’s Studies.

In her spare time Dr. Kerby is the principle investigator of an interdisciplinary community/school gardening project in an at-risk neighborhood in Bowling Green, KY. She also heads up a cooperative efforts to sell crafts produced by villagers in Belize.

And many may know Molly by her talents. She has long been a local musician performing with groups such as Just Us. She also enjoys cooking, kayaking and gardening.

Meet our festival organizers: Ronnie “The Piñata Lady” Jaggers

Ronnie “The Pinata Lady” Jaggers is hard at work at Chiseled Features Studio creating 10 piñatas for the 2017 Bowling Green International Festival Saturday September 30 at Circus Square Park. Kids are invited to try breaking the custom made piñatas every hour on the hour beginning at 9 a.m.

Jaggers also creates jewelry, figurines, paintings, piñatas, miniature game pieces, models, graphic arts, screen printing, originals for concrete statues, fountains, stained glass and more. Some of her work will be on display in her booth near the piñata area.

Ronnie has been on the Community Planners and making piñatas for the festival since 2001. Having raised six children, she had plenty of experience in creating piñatas and organizing piñata bursts!
