Join us for the Bowling Green International Festival Press Conference Wednesday August 13 at Noon on Fountain Square. A Public signing of a joint Proclamation by the City of Bowling Green and County of Warren, Kentucky will take place declaring September 2003 "Celebrating International Heritage Month".
Many businesses and organizations have shown their support of the festival by hosting related events throughout September and details of these events as well as the 2003 Bowling Green International Festival will be presented. The Bowling Green International Festival was recently named as one of Kentucky Tourism's Top 10 Festivals and Events. This year's theme is "Celebrations".
All area media is encouraged to attend and help us kick off the coming month long celebration of our community's diversity. We appreciate all the support we have been getting from area media in all forms. The growth of our festival would not be possible without your generousity and support for our community! Excitement is in the air as preparations are underway for the Bowling Green International Festival on September 27, 2003 in Fountain Square from 10am-8pm.
Area residents, schools, civic groups, businesses and individuals are invited to share in the celebration of cultural diversity in a wide variety of ways.
Applications are now being accepted for the parade (opening the festival at 9am), vending booths, children's activities booths, cultural displays, entertainment and sponsorship of the event.
According to Executive Director, Kim Mason, "The date of the festival has been permanently moved to the last Saturday in September so participation will be more convenient for school groups of all types. Cumberland Trace has already enthusiastically jumped on board and will be creating some special floats for the parade as well as preparing booths for the festival. Their festival day participation will reflect some of the innovative learning projects that the school has planned for next year to better acquaint their students and educators with the cultural heritage of its increasingly diverse student body."
In addition many related activities are being planned throughout September. All area venues and businesses are welcome to show their support by hosting a related event from performances to food specials. A few related events include:
• Roll Around the World Skating FUN-raiser September 12, 6-9pm
• Barnes and Noble Bookfair September 28, 10am-6pm
• BG Chamber Orchestra performance of "Our Towns" at the Capitol on September 22, 7:30pm
• The Aimon String Quartet from Ulm Germany at the First Christian Church September 23, 7:30pm
• The BG International Festival Juried Art Exhibition, September 1-30 at Spencer's Coffeehouse (reception September 26, 6-8pm)
• The Gallery Walk September 26, 5-9pm
and many more.
Area students are invited to participate in this years Poster and Essay contests. The Poster contest is for grades K-6 and the Essay contest is for grades 7-12. Entries should be received by September 9 at the Warren County Attorney's Office.
The festival is also searching for assistance in creating a year round educational resource/reference area on the website at http://BGInternationalFest.com Area educators and their classes are invited to share in the development of this site by assisting with the creation of informational pages, games, curriculum guides and other educational and edu-tainment pages.
Area residents are invited to volunteer as workers on festival day or to take part in the planning of the festival. Community Planning Meetings take place each month the second Tuesday at 5:30pm at Cumberland Grille, 191 Cumberland Trace Rd and on the fourth Tuesday at Noon at the BG International Center, 806 Kenton.
