Ann Sonnier Gonzalez grew up in the birthplace of jazz New Orleans LA. Living in Louisiana exposed Ann to a variety of musical styles. She lived in the middle of a jazz mecca and grew up influenced by American jazz and Latin jazz from her Hispanic father. In a Creole/Latin family, singing was expected at all family gatherings. She entered Delgado College in New Orleans and sang the lead role in DAMn Yankees. She also sang in the Delgado College jazz ensemble for two years. Shortly afterwards, she moved to Europe to begin her professional music career.
Ann resided in Europe for five years. She did studio work in London singing Latin, world music and jazz . She toured in England, Denmark, Austria, and Germany. For part of that time, she lived in Greece and learned to sing Greek songs for television, clubs and festivals. She soon developed a repertoire of traditional and popular Greek songs.~
Returning to the United States in December of 1996, Ann moved to Nashville, and continued her career in music. She continued singing Jazz and also began singing with Jim Roberts in the Ancient Hand Project, a group rooted in world music. Her studies in jazz continued at the Nashville Jazz Workshop. She truly loves foreign language and spends a great deaI of time honing her skills in singing Portuguese and Spanish melodies.
Anns unique arrangements are soulful, spirited and sensual Her influences of Brazilian, Cuban, and New Qrlea-ns Jazz make her show an intriguing experience. Recently, Ann was featured on The Sound-Room, a-music video show airing a variety of different artists such as Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks. The show had ten consecutive airings on Channel 19 in the Nashville area. Shortly after, Ann was asked to do Mornings On Fox, (Channel 17), a variety show with host Charlie Chase. Ann continues to grow and explore in the jazz area. She is currently co-producing her CD project at Kalimba studio in Nashville, Tennessee.
