Traditional Chinese Dance

Join us for a selection of beautiful Chinese dances with Cheryl Pan, who was called the “Woman of 1000 Dances” by a feature article in a magazine. She is the only Chinese dance artist recognized by the Kentucky Arts Council with its Performing Art Directory and Art Education Roster. She is also a contributor to KET’s Arts Toolkit. As the artistic director of the Kentucky Chinese American Association, she has choreographed, directed and hosted the Chinese New Year celebration in Lexington for the several years including the sold-out performance in the Lexington Opera House in 2010. She has been featured by several TV and radio programs (30-min interview on KET), articles in several magazines and newspapers for her expertise in Chinese dances. She has been invited to perform at the Performing Arts Exchange, the Kentucky Folk Life Festival, the World Music and Dance Festival, the Kite Festival, the Governor’s Derby Breakfast, Bowling Green International Festival and many events organized by schools, colleges and corporations.

She has contributed tremendously to enrich the cultural life of the Asian-American community and the community at large with her own and her students’ dance performances. She has choreographed and directed many classic Chinese dances such as the Fan Dance, Ribbon Dance, Umbrella Dance, and Lantern Dance, making these traditional art forms available for our community to appreciate and to enjoy. In addition, over 20 styles of her ethnic dances representing Chinese minority groups such as Tibetan, Uyugurian, Mongolian, Yi, Bai and Miao, have been the highlight of many cultural events.
