World Master Lyung Kim has dedicated his life to learning and teaching traditional Korean martial arts. World Master Kim is a native South Korean, who began his martial arts training at an early age. World Master Kim is a recent addition to Bowling Green’s international community and is recognized by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), the International Federation [IF] governing the sport of Taekwondo. He is also a member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations [ASOIF]. The WTF recognizes national Taekwondo governing bodies recognized by the NOC in the pertinent country, one in each country, as its members. World Master Kim is qualified by the WTF to coach Olympic athletes. World Master Kim has been featured in the internationally recognized martial arts magazine “Tae Kwon Do Times”. The article included his participation in Bowling Green’s International Festival. As a young adult, he was selected as a member of South Korea’s elite National Demonstration Team. His students have won medals at the 2008 U.S. Junior Olympics and other national and international competitions. TaekwondoTaekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. Taekwondo has been developing with the 5000-year long history of Korea, being called by several different names in the course. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind. Today, it has become a global sport that has gained an international reputation, and stands among the official games in the Olympics. HapkidoHapkido has the most varied types of techniques and is an extremely integrated art consisting of extensive joint locking and pressure point techniques, takedowns, submissions, ground-fighting, throws, dynamic kicking techniques, strikes, punches, falling-down skills, breathing techniques, and an array of weapons techniques, including the sword, the cane, the fan, short stick, and belt skills. The vast array of techniques equip the student to defend against any situation, and the full array of possible holds, grabs, punches, kicks and weapons attacks. Falling down and rolling skills are vital for self-protection in real-life situations. Training in Hapkido is also a very effective way of promoting good health. As the practitioner becomes more skilled, special breathing techniques are also developed, in order to enhance inner understanding and appreciation of one's own body. World Master Kim is a master in three other Korean martial arts (Hapkido 7th Degree Black, Kumdo 4th Degree Black, and Chun Kuhn Do 8th Degree). His extraordinary physical abilities have been demonstrated at the Bowling Green International Festival in 2006 and 2007. World Master Lyung Kim and Champion Martial Arts Academy will be demonstrating the high flying kicks of Taekwondo, the Samurai-influenced, empty-hand martial art of Hapkido, and the ancient sword art of Kumdo. Come see World Master Kim and the magnificent display of Korean martial arts at this year’s Bowling Green International Festival. |
